Remains of the rail track at the World War 2 Brownstone Emergency Coastal Battery which carried ammunition form the store, at the top of the slope, down to the guns. The shells were loaded onto a truck or bogey and then freewheeled down the hill. Gears controlled the speed. An engine and a pulley took the truck back up the slope. the shells weighed about 90lbs each so some sort of device was needed to transport then to the 6in naval guns below. The battery dates from 1942
