1953 Aston Martin DB3S ex David Brown Racing Team Car Number 5 of 11 team cars constructed, DB3S/05 was initially built for Sir David Brown himself as a road car and featured a one off glass fibre body. Sadly for Sir David he never took delivery of the car as she was commandeered by the racing team to replace the losses suffered during the 1953 season. Now equipped with a lightweight aluminium body the car went on to achieve many victories at the hands of drivers such as Sir Stirling Moss, Roy Salvadori, Peter Colin and Reg Parnell to name but a few and took part in some of the most iconic events of the era. Later in her life chassis 05 featured in the film School For Scoundrels staring Terry Thomas and later still went on to take part in club racing and eventually the modern version of the Mille Miglia in which she raced originally in 1955. As presented today, DB3S/05 has undergone a full factory restoration at Aston Martin Works and has a proven track record having completed the 2014 1000 Miglia directly after delivery back to her owner. Technically advanced for their time, these historic sports racing cars are a delight to drive on both road and track. Power delivery from the 3 litre 6 cylinder engine is impressive, pulling strongly out of the slowest corners from low RPM and building as the revs rise to produce equally impressive straight-line performance. Exhibiting exceptional handling characteristics for their time and with excellent brakes thanks to the then state-of-the art Girling disc brakes that equipped the team cars, this really is one of the most usable sports racing machines of its era.
