The mother giant anteater carries her baby even though it is outgrowing her BLACKPOOL ZOO, ENGLAND HILARIOUS IMAGES of a mother giant anteater carrying her too big baby on her back at Blackpool Zoo have been captured. Images show the Giant Anteater struggling to make room for her giant 18-month old baby on her back but a mothers love perseveres and she still carries the massive pup. The pup still waits on a name despite being born in October 2023 to her proud parents Andina and Eskil, who are both 12 years old. Giant Anteaters hail from the swamps, grasslands and humid forests of areas from Southern Belize to northern Argentina and they are the last living species to have evolved on South America when it was an isolated continent. The species is the most threatened in South America and in some parts of the continent there has not been a sighting for many years. These images were captured by photographer Gary Cox (53) from Manchester England. Gary captured the loving mother at Blackpool Zoo, England on his Canon 80D camera with Sigma 150-600mm lens. “The images are of a giant anteater carrying her pup on her back,” said Gary. “However, it looks to me like this pup is getting far too big to still be getting piggy backs from her mum. “The pup was born in October 2023 to proud parents Andina and Eskil. “Giant anteaters are classified as vulnerable to extinction and the most threatened mammal in Central America. “This made this birth extremely important for both the zoo and the species in general.” ENDS
