Japan: 'Landscape with Waterfall'. Handscroll painting by Maruyama Okyo (1733-1795), 18th century. Maruyama Okyo (June 12, 1733 - August 31, 1795), born Maruyama Masataka, was a Japanese artist active during the Edo period. He founded the Maruyama school of painting, which mixed Western naturalism with Eastern decorative design.
