Abingdon, England - 8 September 2019 Abingdon claims to be the oldest town in England. This is its famous medieval stone bridge, on a fine spring morning. The Bridge was begun in 1416 and completed in 1422, using local limestone. It was funded by Abingdon's religious guild, the Fraternity of the Holy Cross. Here we see the bridge on a summer morning, with moored boats and St Helens Wharf visible through its main arch.
