Cambridge University – Senate House

The Senate House is the principal university building in the centre of Cambridge. It was built from 1722 to 1730 in Portland stone to a design by the architect James Gibbs. It is used mainly for the conferment of degrees, for some ceremonial occasions, for the annual address by the Vice-Chancellor and for occasional concerts and lectures by prominent visitors to the university. Examination (tripos) results are posted on its south exterior wall in June each year. The picture was drawn by I H Baldry and engraved by J Greig
