SUCCESS OF CHUKAR PLANTINGS IN CALIFORNIA Each county where chukars were released was checked during 1952 and 1953 to determine the success of the plant or plants. Success of these liberations varied from successful establishment to complete fail- ure. However, in some of the areas where the chukar failed, the numbei's liberated were too few to provide a good test. Chukars were liberated in almost every conceivable type of terrain—from dense stands of timber and brush in the coast ranges and Sierra Nevada to the FIGURE 3. Isohyets.
