Structure of the Uterus. The uterus is a hollow muscle. The central cavity is lined with mucous mem-brane while the external surface of the muscle is covered with peritoneum. Thewall of the uterus is therefore composed of three layers—peritoneal muscular,and mucous (Figs. 530, 531). L Peritoneal layer. This forms a delicate serous covering to the uterus.
