Here we see one of the most famous buildings in the heart of Oxford- the world famous Bodleian Library of the University of Oxford. Dating back - in part - to the 14th Century, it is one of the oldest centres of scholarship and leaning in Europe. With over 12 million items, it is the second biggest library in Britain after the British Library. Early on a fine summer morning, we see this fine view of the library, its entrance guarded by a bronze statue of the third Earl of Pembroke, William Herbert. He was Chancellor of the University of Oxford from 1617 until his death at the age of 50 on 10 April 1630; he also donated many manuscripts to the Bodleian Library in 1629.
