The weight on the driving box ofall types of engines with a broken tire must be relieved,when the pedestal is not strong enough to withstandthe weight. If the forward tire is broken on an enginehaving an underhung spring rigging, and the equalizeris chained up, a block should be placed over the backdriving box to help carry the weight (Plate 90).
