Aquasar supercomputer. At left, Professor Ralph Eichler (President, ETH Zurich), and at right Dr John Kelly (Senior Vice President, IBM Research) with the Aquasar supercomputer. The supercomputer's water-cooled IBM BladeCenter servers were developed by IBM and installed at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH Zurich). It consumes up to 40 percent less energy than a comparable air-cooled machine, and achieves a performance of six Teraflops with an energy efficiency of about 450 Megaflops per Watt. In addition, nine kilowatts of thermal power are fed into the building's heating system. Photographed on 6 May 2010.
