The Chase-Kirchner Aerodromic System of Transportation. A good many railroads and some street railways havebeen constructed on wind, but we have yet to learn ofany of them operating on that very unsubstantial sub-stance. Under the title of The Coming RailroadLieutenant G. N. Chase and H. W. Kirchener, of , Mo., announce their radical departure from estab-lished methods and one which they claim is soon torevolutionize the world. They term their system the Aerodromic, and the problem which they undertake tosolve is the construction of a machine which shall be ableto run upon the air at great speed, guided by a principle is based upon the flight of a bird, especiallyin the act of soaring, the comparison being made that a birdwith an initial velocity of 22 feet per second, soaring one. CAR INIIER SAIL. minute, will cover 1,200 feet on an average velocity of 20feet per second, and that the bird can sail down an inclineof II feet per mile indefinitely and at a speed vastly in ex-cess of that possible by the expenditure of the same amountof work in other means of transport. It is stated that newexperiments show that if in such aerial motion there begiven a plane of fixed size and weight, inclined at such anangle and moved forward at such a speed that it shall be sus-tained in horizontal flight, then the more rapid the motionis, the less will be the power required to support and ad-vance it. The contemplated structure for this system isan elevated track of steel consisting of two parallel trusses ping and acceleration to starting. Car to be from 40 to100 feet in length, and grain and coal cars to be hoppershape and discharge through the bottom. The detailsof electrical propulsion involve nothing new, but uponthe top of the car are to
