Woman by a Plum Tree Matched with the Wisteria Maiden (from a series of women compared to figures from Otsu paintings), c. early 1830s. The print includes a portrayal of the otsu-e maiden behind the dancer to emphasize the subject’s origins in festival dances (see also Wisteria Maiden []). The print is a surimono, an elaborately printed image designed for private distribution among friends or members of a poetry club.
