The sun sets on South Alamo Street, Oct. 1, 2017, in Refugio, Texas. Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church, in the background, sustained minor damage when Hurricane Harvey struck the town as a category four storm in late August, but other structures were completely demolished. The town is slowly recovering thanks to the grit and determination of the townspeople. Scientists say climate change is causing more dangerous hurricanes that are more intense and more likely to stall, increasing rainfall and creating a more deadly impact. (Photo by Carmen K. Sisson)
