Galveston hurricane storm surge. This artwork shows the hurricane-induced storm surge that flooded the offshore island and port of Galveston, Texas, USA, on 8 September 1900. This was the deadliest hurricane in US history, killing over 7000 people. The main artwork shows the surge pouring over sea walls. Inset artworks show bodies transported (upper left) for burial at sea (upper right) or for incineration (lower right). Looters are shot (lower left) and ruins are shown across bottom.
