Parkes radio telescope. The huge dish of the radio telescope at the Australian National Radio Astronomy Observatory at Parkes, New South Wales, Australia, seen under a nearly full moon. The dish is 64 metres (210 feet) in diameter and is fully steerable. It was completed in 1961, and can be used to record a range of wavelengths from 5 millimetres to 2 centimetres.
