On June?J2, 1867. a committee was instructed to se-cure a site in the southwestern part of thecity, and the corner of Inion and ]\IcCartystreets was selected. A frame chapel wasciected and dedicated on October 20. 20 a church orofauization wasformed with twenty-one members, and Rev.•T. B. Brandt was called as jiastor. The prop-erty, which had cost about ^; was do-nated bv the Second Chui-cli. and its incni-. FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH. 1866 it \as purcliased by the Third Church,which took cliariic of the school. In the clniich was organized and B. Cliamberlain was called from^fadison as jiastoi-. and served until 1873. In1873 a new buildins: was erected at the south-west corner of Michigan and Blackfordstreets. In 1890 the conirreaation decided tochange this to a Church, andit has since been known as the Peoples Con-giegational Chuicli. The Presbytery of In-dianapolis relinquished the property on con-dition of the new organization thedebt wliii-h iimaiii<(l nii the church buildiiiir. bees also contributed largely to the brickchurch which was erected six years later ata cost of about $7,000. and dedicated on Jan-uary 25. 1874.
