Mute Swan with young glides along the still waters on Marine Lke in Southport. The young birds, or cygnets, sometimes ride on their parents' backs and remain with the adult birds for four or five months. Swans are normally very placid creatures, but they are very strong and can use their wings to good effect when defending themselves.
