Elias Cooper, who had also theRectorship of St. Johns Church, Yonkers, was incharge of this Parish from 178!) to 1801. His unboundedpopularity in Yonkers had its counterpart on thisside of the Bronx. He was ordained to the Priesthoodin the church at East Chester, ami for more than sixtyyears afterward were his praises upon the lips of thepeople of this town. Pophamand Lancaster Underbill, and the first VestrymenPhilip Pell, Lewis Guiori, Isaac Ward, John Reid,Isaie Guion, Abraham Valentine, Win. Pinkney andWin. Crawford. The Rev. Isaac Wilkins succeededMr. Cooper in the Rectorship. Dr. Wilkins, twenty-five years before this, hail been a member of theColonial Assembly from the borough of Westchester,and was, besides, the reputed author of the politicalpamphlets which bore the name of the WestchesterFarmer. He seems to have been regarded with tin-greatest respect, and in connection with his duties atSt. Peters, Westchester, to have rendered most faith-ful service at East Chester.
