This image may not be used to state or imply ESA endorsement of any company or product Spiral galaxy M81. Ultraviolet (UV) image of the face-on spiral galaxy M81 (NGC 3031). This galaxy is around 12 million light years away in the Ursa Major constellation. The spiral arms are clearly seen, along with a bright nucleus (centre). The galaxy is around 22,000 light years across. This image was obtained by the Optical Monitor on the XMM-Newton satellite.
