In Rhode Island, the destruction of the British armed schoonerGaspee, in consequence of her firing on a merchantman, was one ofthe bold acts which mark the spirit of the time. The inhabitants of Boston tried every measure to sendback the three tea ships which had arrived there, but without suc-cess.
