St Paul Deptford London, exterior from north west; by Thomas Archer between 1712 and 1730


St Paul Deptford. One of the 'Fifty New Churches' or 'Queen Anne Churches'. Built in the Baroque style by Thomas Archer between 1712 and 1730. St Paul is raised on a platform above a crypt, and has colossal banded pilasters supporting pediments on the north and south. At the west is a cylindrical tower, around which Archer wraps a semicircular portico of four giant Tuscan columns.
