Theside walls Avere very frequently coveredwith abundance of rich tracery to theheads of the windows, instead of beingdivided into various forms, as in thepreceding century, and were filled witha great number of small compartments,with trefoil heads supported by per-pendicular mullions: the large win-dows were usually divided by two largemullions into three compartments,which were subdivided into smallerones.^ A general rule respecting this archi-tecture, is that the arch is old accord-ing to its acuteness.
