Edward Henry Harriman (1848-1909), US railroad executive and explorer. Harriman became a director of the Union Pacific Railroad in 1897, Chairman from 1898, and President from 1903. He also controlled numerous other railroad companies. He is also remembered for the Harriman Alaska Expedition of 1899. This image is from a photograph by the Pach Brothers, New York. Photograph published in 'The March of Commerce' (1927), volume 4 of 'The Pageant of America: A Pictorial History of the United States'. This was a 15-volume series that commemorated 150 years since the founding of the USA in 1776.
