Aerial view of Beckenham Place Park showing the Wild Swimming Lake
Beckenham Place Park is the largest green space in the Borough of Lewisham, covering 98 hectares and featuring ancient woodlands, London’s first purpose built swimming lake and several historic buildings. Beckenham Place Park is the remains of a late-18th-century estate, occupying about 96 hectares. Features include parkland and ancient wood. The park retains much of the form of a landscape park in terms of plantations, but parkland standards are reduced and blurred by golf course planting. The site has been a public park and golf course since 1928. There was much sadness and controversy when Lewisham Council decided to close the public course in November 2017.
