Phenethylamine is a naturally-occurring primary monoamine. Substituted analogues of phenethylamine are often psychoactive drugs, used both medically and recreationally. Many, such as adrenaline and amphetamine are central nervous stimulants and neurotransmitters, as is phenethylamine itself. Others are euphorics (dopamine, MDMA), hallucinogens (mescaline), appetite suppressants (phentermine), bronchodilators (pseudoephedrine) and antidepressants (bupropion). Atoms are represented as spheres and are colour-coded: carbon (black), hydrogen (white) and nitrogen (blue).
