Statuette of a Scribe ca. 1391–1353 New Kingdom This statuette depicts a seated scribe with a scroll of papyrus across his lap. His kilt is drawn tightly around his knees to create a flat surface on which to write. He would have held a reed brush in his right hand and would have unrolled the papyrus with his left hand. The deep wrinkles across his chest indicate that he is no longer a young Statuette of a Scribe. ca. 1391–1353 Serpentinite. New Kingdom. From Egypt, Upper Egypt, Thebes. Dynasty 18
