Threading their way between and around thevarious machines, cars, barrows, wheels, opera-tives, and processes, which make the place a veryBabel of confusion, the party reached the frontof the re-heating furnaces, where they found ailumber of boys piling the plates into smallstacks preparatory to their being placed in thefire. In making these piles care is taken tobreak joints so as to avoid flaws in the nail-plate.
