The lumbricales are assistants tothe long flexor ; and the transversus pedis is placedacross the foot for the purpose of drawing the toestogether. OF THE —APONEUROLOGY. The soft structures and delicate organs of the body are every whereinvested with protecting coats, or bandages, called fasciae. They arecomposed of lamina; of various thickness, and are divided into cellulo-tibrous and aponeurotic. The celliilo-fibrous fascia invests the whole body between the skinand the deeper parts, and affords a medium of connection betweenthem. It is composed of fibrous tissue, arranged in a cellular form,the cells containing adipose substance, thus affording a yielding andelastic structure, through which the minute vessels and nerves pass tothe papillary layer of the skin, without obstruction or injury frompressure. By dissection it may be separated into two layers, betweenwhich the subcutaneous vessels and nerves are found. In some situa-tion
