Dalbeyand was admitted to the bar in December, 1900, and has since practiced suc-cessfully. When former Governor Hadley was in office, he appointed the circuit clerk and recorder of deeds of Gentry County to fill outthe unexpired term of Horace J. Peery. This was in April, 1910, and held the office for two years, working under Don Hawthorne. success and popularity as an official of the county is shown by the. C. E. KRNST HISTORY OF DAVIESS AND GENTRY COUNTIES 425 fact that his county elected him to fill the office of prosecuting attorneyin 1918 and reelected him in 1920. C. E. Ernst was married in 1901, to Alice Sparks, a daughter of Col-W. P. Sparks of Grant City. Mrs. Ernst was born and reared in GrantCity. To this union of C. E. and Alice (Sparks) Ernst two children havebeen born: Charles, a graduate of the Albany High School, now a studentat Palmer College, and interested in electrical engineering; and Ernestinealso a graduate of Albany High School, and at present student at PalmerCollege from which she was graduated in music in 1922. Mr. Ernst is a member of the Baptist church and is identified with thefollowing lodges: the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, the IndependentOrder of Odd Fellows of which he is a Past Grand Master, the Yoeman, andthe Woodmen of the World.
