Asian tiger mosquito (Aedes albopictus) female crushed after being swatted. Her abdomen has split, leaking the human blood to nourish her eggs that she had obtained by feeding through the skin. This mosquito, native to South-East Asia and the Indian Ocean, is a vector for pathogens such as West Nile virus, yellow fever virus dengue virus and zika virus.
