They often bear dates which are later than the probable year of Marinus' death (1546), or they carry French inscriptions or these inscriptions deal with subjects which Marinus never used on one of his original versions of Ywo Tax Collectors, the title which has been most commonly used for these paintings (cf. the versions in the Louvre Museum and in the National Gallery of London).
