A little owl peaks through the evergreen LONDON, ENGLAND ADORABLE IMAGES show a little owl playing peek-a-boo with the photographer in an evergreen tree. Images show the owl swooping in and out of the foliage occasionally looking straight at the photographer just to check he is still capturing their best side. The Little Owl is our smallest owl, not much bigger than a Song Thrush but chunky in appearance. The upperparts are grey-brown and the plumage is often spotted with white. The pale underparts are densely streaked with darker brown markings. The piercing stare is emphasised by the dark eyes, yellow irises and the strongly marked pale eyebrows. Both sexes are similar in their appearance. These images were captured by photographer Lee Tilley (47) from Hounslow, West London. Lee captured the little owl in Bushy Park, London on his Canon R6 with sigma 150-600mm. Capturing these flighty birds can be a challenge so Lee is thrilled to have these shots. ?I think these are some fantastic sightings of little owls and owlets including at the nest site," he said. ?It is not really typical to see them even as little owls are notoriously shy and very secretive. ?You mainly hear them before you see them and even then they are very hard to spot with their bark-like colourings. They are fantastic little characters. ?I feel great every time I see a little owl as they are so very shy and secretive. I know lots of people who have never even seen one. ?I love the shot of the little owl peering through the evergreens as it had been bobbing about there thinking it was unseen. ?It then looked straight at me for a split second before hiding away. ?It's always a joy to see them and even better to capture their sometimes grumpy little ENDS
