Polymorphic eruption of pregnancy. Thigh of a woman who is 36 weeks pregnant with polymorphic eruption of pregnancy (PEP). Also known as pruritic urticarial papules and plaques of pregnancy (PUPPP) and toxemic rash of pregnancy, this condition is a chronic itchy rash with wheals and papules that affects some women during pregnancy. Treatment is with topical moisturisers and, in more severe cases, corticosteroids. Most PUPPP cases resolve within a week of delivery, but a few do continue postnatally.
