Probably the most interestingitem of this character is a new type of insulator guardthat has been installed in the feeder lines at crossingsor other points where the failure of an insulator and theconsequent arcing and burning at the cross-arm mightlet the feeder fall where it would cause damage or in-jury to persons. The provisions originally made forthis purpose consisted of short pieces of steel strand,or pig-tails, clipped to the feeder a few feet on eitherside of the cross-arm that was to be protected andfastened at the opposite ends to the cross-arm itself, sothat if the feeder
