Not for retail poster use Comet Hyakutake. Coloured visible light image of Comet 1996 B2 Hyakutake. The comet was discovered in January 1996 by amateur comet hunter Yuji Hyakutake, using huge 25x150 binoculars. Passing just 15 million kilometres from Earth on 25 March 1996, this comet is predicted to be a bright naked-eye object for northern hemisphere observers. With binoculars or small telescopes a small tail may be visible, although for most observers the comet will probably appear only as a diffuse parabolic coma. This image was made using a telescope on 24 February 1996 from Australia.
