The Grand Hotel, Brighton, East Sussex, UK
The Grand Hotel is situated along Brighton's seafront on the King's Road. It was designed by architect John Whichcord, built in 1864, and is a fine example of Italian influence in Victorian architecture. The hotel was targeted by the IRA during the Conservative Party conference in 1984, in an attempt to assassinate Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, and a bomb exploded at on the 12 October. Thatcher survived the attack, but 5 people died as a result and significant damage was caused. After major restoration the hotel was re-opened in 1986.
