The consequence of syphilitic disease of the placenta isusually disastrous to the fetus and often dangerous to the cellular infiltration of the villi obliterates the blood-vesselswithin them, and consequently abrogates their functions. Thesame effect may be produced by the hyperplasia of the deciduasi rotina and the consequent encroachment of the decidual tissueupon the intervillous blood-spaces, or the destruction of the villimay be brought about by tin formation of the nodular massesthat have been noticed.
