99 222, built in 1931 this standard issue steam engine built for the 1000mm narrow gauge railway is now in service for the herzer Schmalspurbahnen, Germany. This engine is in service on the Brocken Railway and runs between Wernigerode and the summit of the Brocken, the highest mountain in the Harz Mountain range. The peak of the Brocken was a military base which has only been open to the public for a relatively short time. Until the fall of the Berlin Wall, the mountain was off limits to all but the Soviet Army.
