A richly decorated, Slavic-Byzantine fire striker, 9th - 10th century, Openwork bronze grip with gilt surface, stylised human figure at centre and two stylised animal heads at the sides. At bottom a trapezoid fire striker with bronze border and fine scrolling leaves in low relief. The fire striker fixed with two silver rivets located underneath the wave ornament. A work of extraordinary high quality from South Eastern Europe, made in the High Middle Ages. Apart from minimal chippings at the lower edge of the fire striker in excellent condition.
