Pilgrims, Solovetsky Monastery, Russia, 1904. Situated on the Solovetsky Islands in the White Sea in northern Russia, Solovetsky Monastery was founded in 1429. In Stalinist times it converted into a prison and labour camp, a prototype for the Gulag system. Found in the collection of the State Museum of History, Moscow.
