The imperfection of the records incident to the excit-ing scenesof the early period of the war; the length oftime that has elapsed ; the neglect of many to reportthemselves to the author, and the liability to mistakes bythose who have reported the names and record of theircomrades, which it has been impossible in many casesto verify ; together with the difficulty of tracing the rec-ord of both living and dead veterans, have renderedmuch imcompleteness and probably, many inaccuraciesin the following tables unavoidable.
