The Asylum Backpackers Hostel makes an interesting stop. Twenty miles out of Dunedin, it has been established on the site on an old Mental Hospital. The main building burned down killing some of the inhabitants who were allegedly abandoned. The current owner has turned the out-buildings, including the laundry, into a strange museum housing his collection of vintage cars and vans.
