Now, when he was come to the castle gates, hecommanded Diabolus to appear, and to surrenderhimself into his hands. But, oh ! how loath wasthe beast to appear ! how he stuck at it! how heshrunk ! how he cringed ! yet out he came to thePrince. Then Emmanuel commanded, and theytook Diabolus and bound him fast in chains, thebetter to reserve him to the judgment that hehad appointed for him. When Emmanuel had taken him and bound himin chains, lie led him into the market-place, andthere, before Mansoul, stripped him of his armourin which he boasted so much before. This nowwas one of the acts of triumph of Emmanuelover his enemy ; and all the while that the giantwas stripping, the trumpets of the golden Princedid sound amain, the captains also shouted, andthe soldiers did sing for joy. Then was Mansoul called upon to behold thebeginning of Emmanuels triumph over him, inwhom they so much had trusted, and of whom,they so much had boasted, in the days when henattered them. Thus having made Diabolus naked in the eyesof Mansoul, and before the commanders of thePrince, in the next place, he commands that
