HE spiritual life of the Mis-sionary—who can estimateits importance ? How essen-tial it is to the successfulprosecution of his work! I. He must have a spirituallife to begin with. He mustbe born againi. He mustknow Christ in the pardon ofsin and by a living experienceof his regenerating power. Hemust have been made a par-taker of the Holy Ghost andhave tasted of the good wordof God and of the powers ofthe world to come. No otherqualification can take theplace of this. Education, na-tural endowments, physicalstrength may all be pres° >.and abound, but without the spiritual life they are nothing. TheMissionary goes to China that the Holy Spirit may work throughhim to BRING DEAD MEN TO LIFE; hut if he himself has no spiritual life, he only adds one more to thenumber of dead men already there. 2.
