Zookeepers at ZSL London Zoo dug out their clipboards ,and calculators as they began counting the animals at the Zoo's annual stocktake today Thursday 2 January . Keepers faced the challenging task of tallying up every mammal , bird ,reptile ,fish and invertebrate at the Zoo , Assistant curator said , we kick of the New Year with the annual stocktake and submit the number of animals each year as part of our zoo license , we also share them with the international zoo community to inform our global breeding programmes to endangered species . ZSL is home to more than 580 species .
