Madurodam, The Hague, The Netherlands. Tuesday 15th September, 2020. Madurodam was opened to the public on July 2 1952, and is a popular theme park venue for tourist and resident alike. The theme park now has an original Douglas DC-3 Dakota to house its latest exhibit: The Flying Dutchman. Once on board the passenger can experience an audio-visual journey over Hollands main attractions; the surreal feel to it all is worthy of the entry ticket alone. The Call-sign of PH-APM, is named after the founder of KLM: Albert Plesmam (P) and the ‘H’ stands for Holland. Although ‘PH-AMP’ is finished in post war KLM livery this ‘Douglas DC-3’ was not in the Dutch KLM fleet. Built as USAAF TC-46K Skytrain, the aircraft was passed on to the US Navy. After its military service “Gooney Bird” had numerous civilian owners, and officially certified as a DC-3C in March 1968. In 1981, the Skytrain was converted into a mosquito spryer by the ‘Monroe County Health Department’ and served until 2003. Grounded for several years: Callsign N213GB was shipped from Jackson Florida (FL) and delivered to Madurodam on the 23 October 2018. © Charles M Vella/Alamy Live News
