Rehabilitation for coma patient. This patient has been stood upright using a specially designed bed. Stimulus like this maintains the body's muscles and can aid recovery from a coma. This patient is being cared for at the Awakening Unit of the St John the Baptist Hospital, Rome, Italy. This unit, which opened in 1997, has advanced radiology and diagnostic equipment for assessing patients with head and brain injuries, and those in a coma. The medical staff specialise in rehabilitation, physiotherapy and occupational therapy, aimed at helping patients to recover from their injuries.
