ER-2 research aircraft and chase car. One of NASA's two ER-2 (Earth Resources 2) high-altitude research aircraft being guided to a safe landing. Voice commands are radioed by an ER-2 mobile pilot in a NASA 2010 Dodge Charger modified chase vehicle reaching speeds of 190 kilometres per hour. This aircraft and its chase car are based at NASA's Dryden Aircraft Operations Facility in Palmdale, California, USA. The ER-2, flown since the 1980s, carries science monitoring equipment. It is a modified version of the U-2 spyplane, and can fly at over 27,500 metres altitude for over 8000 kilometres. Photographed on 14 December 2010.
