July 13th, 2016 - London, UK: Protesters gather outside the Royal Courts of Justice whilst the National AIDS Trust launch a legal battle to push the NHS and the Department of Health into providing the“revolutionary” HIV medication ‘PrEP'. Pre exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is a HIV prevention intervention – it can prevent transmission of HIV if taken by those who are HIV negative and at risk of contracting the virus. NHS England (NHSE) has repeatedly claimed that it is not responsible for the commissioning of PrEP, despite it already commissioning post exposure prophylaxis. Along with other HIV charities, advocacy groups and professional networks, the National AIDS Trust (NAT) also strongly disagree. NAT are currently challenging this shameful decision through the courts with a judicial review.
